Creative Arts Jr children were lucky to have a visitor from Pinhey's Point Historical site on March 9th. The theme was Colours of the Rainbow and they played games with coloured balls and learned about primary and secondary colours. The 3's in the morning will have their chance for a different program called Eggspose on April 14th. The 2's will learn about Farm Friends on May 13th. This is a City of Ottawa program run through Pinhey's Point Historical Site to promote our local museums and the activities they have for our young children.

Here the children are mixing primary colours in shaving cream to create a kool marbled effect on a book mark...they had alot of fun with this one!
Three year old lining up all the Playmobil people in their castle.

Three year olds create an abstract colour block pattern on this divider which will live upstairs once it's completed. Tomorrow (April 7th) they will get to put their hand prints in the section they painted.

Two of the 2's having fun jumping and playing with the hula hoops in preparation for the Hop-a-thon taking place this week in the preschool classes. Don't forget to bring in your pledge forms!

Mini Olympic Greats

After a fun and challenging week of many Olympic Events in the preschool class, the medals were handed out to all the participants today.

The preschool children learned about the different sports, shared their personal favorites with us, and experimented in the events on a preschool level. Focus was on sportsmanship and fun. The children also passed the torch around the classroom to their friends in different cities of our country and listened and learned a little of our national anthem.
All in all, it was a fun experience to talk with them about something so relevant to all of us experiencing the Olympic Spirit!!
GO CANADA GO!!!

Happy New Year.

I hope everyone is settling back into their regular routines after a much needed break.
The teacher's are in full swing of programming with some renewed creativity.
Last week we had an outbreak of Ookpik's in the classroom and they are outstanding to look at. The kindergarten kids listened to the Denis Lee poem about a snowy owl and then made these quirky looking birds as the Ookpik for their inspiration. If you are in or around the school this week it would be worth stepping in and taking a closer look at the wonderful creativity of our 4 and 5 year olds.
Great work inspiring them, Sandy!

Our preschool is hosting a play this coming weekend and we are talking about Little Red Riding Hood to prepare the children for this performance. The Monday CA+ class created these watercolour forests and the detail in these masterpieces are quite intricate. A simple taped border around the edges makes for a professional looking art piece.
I know I will be hanging my child's up at home...what do you think?

On behalf of the teacher's I would like to thank all the parents that participated in the group donation for the teacher's holiday gift. Your kindness and generosity are greatly appreciated.

December is here!

Creative Arts Jr. created these webbed masterpieces when we were reading Eric Carle's
The Very Busy Spider

You may or not have peeked into the classroom to see these beautiful Multi -Media canvases created by the Creative Arts Super kids...wow...can I say Art Gallery??
The preschool theme this week was all about Shapes. We used Paperoni to create these 3-D shape creations. It was a great exercise in fine motor and perseverance not to mention they are gorgeous.

Are your Holiday cards ready to be mailed? Well, the classroom dramatic play centre is set up like a Post Office this week and the kids have been delivering cards and bills to all the teachers and their friends in the classroom. When yours are ready to be mailed bring along your children to the post office and let them stick the stamps...they'll love it.
Just look at these two postal workers from the 3 year old class.

Another three year old creating with the Paperoni.

The Creative Arts Plus kids had a blast creating these 3-D paper sculptures and the dialogue that went along with them was hysterical.
"This is a hamster run" "This is a roller coaster" "This is the playground"

Creative Arts Plus girl getting all flowered up when we had a garden set up on the carpet.

Dinosaurs walked amoung us at Good Morning this past week

Dinos Dinos...Everywhere!
This week at Good Morning we explored the famous dinosaur theme in almost every program and it was a big hit. The preschoolers were roaring with songs and games from the Dino Pokey to going on a Dino Hunt. Seen around the classroom were dinosaurs taking over the dollhouse, dinosaur bones in the sandbox for our little paleontologists to discover, dinosaur puzzles, dinosaur play dough creatures and as you may well expect from our wonderful teachers...
ART!!ART!!! ART!!!!
It was dino-mite!!!

The above creation was done by our Plus (JK&SK) group as they created an exploding volcano with the dinosaurs.
Three year olds created these dino bones by using pasta to create the skeletons.

Our Creative Arts Jr group created these multi-media dinosaurs with an emphasis on lines stripes and triangles...ROAR!

Two year olds created these little dino's cracking out of their egg.

Two's also created these little dino puppets using cheerios for their spots.

Creative Arts Plus made these water coloured dinos with their little eggs to match.

Free art painting to create something for mommy!

I hope you enjoyed seeing a little peak into our Dino-Mite week!
